I absolutely love my commute to work every day. It starts with a brisk 1/2 mile walk to the subway followed by the 20 minute subway ride to the World Trade Center. This is where the fun begins. After getting off the train there is mass exodus to get where you are going. From the minute you get off the train you are battling crowds towards the stairs or the escalators. However, the stairs are empty and there is a massive line to the escalators.
Upon arriving in NYC I vowed to never use the escalator or elevator unless injured or there were no stairs. I did this for several reasons,
- This is my AM cardio!
- My legs will get stronger.
- I get to focus on my breathing.
- I just feel better; I feel like I accomplished something before arriving to work.
- Plus, I am tired of everyone complaining about wanting to loose weight and looking for answers to accomplish this, while looking at their phones, drinking a grande iced coffee with whip cream and waiting in line for the escalator.
So for me there is no “when” to take the escalator (except when one is injured) and there is a great desire to put my phone away, focus on the present moment and get my work done!
